Troop Announcements

Our next batch of Pedro Scouts will soon be arriving and with that Pedro Bootcamp as well as the first set of campouts involving our new Scouts is just around the corner.  We need older Scouts to work with these new Scouts as Troop Guides.  At this point we are aware of only one older Scout that has expressed an interest in being a Troop Guide, we need more.  This is an excellent way to help the new Scouts out in understanding Scouting and introducing them to our Troop while at the same time providing the opportunity to satisfy the leadership requirement for rank advancement.  At a minimum for Troop Guides we are looking for Scouts that have earned their First Class Scout rank.  Ideally they should also be a 3rd year Scout or higher.

While we realize that according to the current version of the Troop calendar Pedro Bootcamp is scheduled for Sunday, March 8, we are investigating doing something different this year in terms of the program.  This year we are moving it to be part of the February campout (weekend of February 28).   The new Pedros would work through their activities as part of the campout.  Having each of you involved at some point (not the whole time) with the new Pedros will give them a chance to start learning what they need for a Troop 210 campout while allowing everyone to enjoy the campout.  When Bootcamp is over, our new Pedros can spend the night with us;  after all, with your guidance they will have pitched their tents and set their dining fly.

Continuing the Pedro Bootcamp tradition the troop would furnish the makings for ‘hobos’ for dinner in this case on Saturday night.    The patrols will have an ‘Iron Chef’ dessert contest with the ‘secret ingredient’ to be provided.

If you are willing to serve as a Troop Guide please contact either Mr. Freeman or Mr. Hornburg.

The End of Brotherhood Fees‏

This is a formal notification of some changes that the Lodge EC has recently made to our fee schedule for Lodge events. This is particularly important as we enter election season.  We need to make sure that everyone is aware of the new changes, both current and future members.

We have completely eliminated the Brotherhood Fees. This means that there will be no additional charge for a brother to complete the Brotherhood Trail. You will still be required to keep your dues current. However, there will be no additional payment involved with the Brotherhood Trail. You merely have to fulfill the Brotherhood Requirements and sign up for the Trail when we offer it. This applies to lodge events, summer camp, and whenever else we offer the Trail.

However, nothing in life is completely free. To help cover the costs of providing Brotherhood Members with their new flaps and sashes, we have increased the New Candidate Ordeal Fee by $5 to bring it to a grand total of $50. So, when chapter election teams provide information to scoutmasters about upcoming Ordeals, they need to ensure that any forms or fliers or other handouts that contain the old fee schedule are updated to reflect the changes. When a candidate shows up for his Ordeal, the $50 will cover the event costs for the weekend, his Ordeal sash and flap, and his Brotherhood sash and flap (when he earns it).

The Brotherhood and Ordeal Fees are the only fees impacted by these changes. Everything else remains the same. This is designed to be a cost saving measure for our membership in light of recent economic strife. If you do the math, you actually save $10 in the course of your induction sequence.
