Merit Badge University

Merit Badge University will be February 21, 2009.  See more information at http://www.raleighmbu.com/.  Please let Mr. Willets know what merit badge you would like to take and I will proceed.

CREW NEWS

Venture Crew 210 held its annual "Pancake/Movie/Ice Cream Sundries" event in December. Pancakes included chocolate chip, blueberry, pecan and the old fashion standby - plain. Sundries were an entirely different story with more topping than one can recall. Twelve youth and four adult leaders enjoyed the food and the movie Elf. The Crew is currently planning an Iron Chef Cook-off for February.

Troop Announcements

·       Please review the recent e-mail regarding tickets to a Hurricanes game and let Mr. Willets know if you are interested, your date preference and the number of tickets you would like.

·       Pack 120 is always in need of "ambassadors" to the Pack, otherwise known as Den Chiefs.  Please let Mr. Freeman know if you are interested.

·        In February, the annual United Methodist Men breakfast and Scout Sunday will be held.  These are, respectively, February 8 and 15, 2009.  More information about these events will be forthcoming.

Try not to schedule a Scoutmaster conference during a scout meeting due to too many interruptions. Alternatives are (in order of preference)

·        Campouts (best time!!!)

·        At my house on a different night (This can be done on my front porch while the parent waits!)

·        Before a meeting

·        After a meeting

A scoutmaster conference should not be rushed so I am really trying to avoid them during scout meetings.

While this means more work for both the scout and scoutmaster, I think the investment of additional time is worth it.

Campout Hammerstone

If you come on the campout and participate, you should have no trouble earning the merit badge on Saturday.  For those that have final exams before and after this weekend, you can choose to come out just for the day if that would help. Please let Nick Dempster know if want to come for the day instead. You can review the Pioneering merit badge requirements here: meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Pioneering

The scout museum has been expanded since we were last there and now includes a Movie Theater that will hold 24. They have some movies there, but if you want to bring one to view instead just make sure it is PG13, PG, or G and that you get it approved by Nick. We'll try to work into our schedule time for watching a movie while we are there. You sure don't want to miss seeing us "fling a cow" with the catapult we build, so plan to make it.

Scouting for Foods

Boy Scout Troop 210 will be helping to stock the White Plains Food Pantry and Annex Pantry, and the food pantry at With Love from Jesus in February.  This year we are asking for help from the congregation in supplying much needed foods for these vital, local community missions.  The Troop collected almost 2000 pounds of food last year which was also the most food collected by any Troop in the District. Below is a list of foods that are needed.  Please plan on bringing these items to the church between February 7 and February 14 to the CLC lobby. Your help is greatly appreciated.  If you have questions or concerns, please contact Pam Willard or Ann Whitfield.

Please DO NOT DONATE items that spoil easily or that require refrigeration.
