The Announcement

November 2007

Pedro Scout Rank Requirements

Older Scouts not taking merit badge classes or adult leaders that have a desire to help, due to the time of the year and where each Pedro is on along their own rank advancement trail there is a need for several smaller sessions for covering rank requirements.  This would be a great way to hone your Scouting skills while helping the younger Scouts move closer toward their First Class rank.  It is also a great way to just get to know these younger Scouts.

While I cannot say what will be worked each week as this is dependent upon the Pedro(s) that are there, there is a need to cover the following general areas.  In no way should you consider yourself required to help each week, any help is greatly appreciated.  I will attempt to match you with a Pedro(s) that need the assistance that you are willing to provide.

  • Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class first aid.  If you have specific first aid area in which you are comfortable or you are comfortable with several, we can work with that.  However, the troop will not provide ‘demo material’ and if you require it unfortunately you will need to provide it.
  • Knots and lashings.  Hopefully the rope bag is in the Scout closet.  I’ll check for it over the weekend.
  • Lighting lightweight (backpack/hiking) stove.  Obviously this would be better on a campout however it can also be considered in terms of outside the church as well.  For safety factors, you need to furnish your own backpack/hiking stove (after all, it is the one you are familiar with).

Eagle Project Idea

Scouters: Please pass this Eagle Project idea along to anyone who may need it. Scouts should discuss all Eagle project concepts with their unit leader (Scoutmaster, Crew Advisor, etc) before following up with the contact below:
======================================================================

I am starting to gather people for a project that we'd like to start in the next few months at Anderson Point Park. We will be erecting a Chimney Swift tower and a kiosk at the park to attract birds and inform visitors. There is a construction guide, so we should be able to make one accurately, but we will need the help of some able bodied people to help with the construction.

Do you know of any Eagle Scouts that are ready to start work on their project? This tower will be a perfect Eagle Scout project, and should be fun to do as well. If you have anyone in mind, or have a troop I can contact, it would be very much appreciated. Thank you,

~Natalie Martin

Venture Crew News

In October Crew 210 went rock climbing (Mountaineering) at Pilot Mountain. Crew members learned the difference between bouldering and technical climbing as well as how to properly tie some of the key knots required for a safe climb. Big thanks to our instructors James Smith and Cy Wilson from REI. Both are certified instructors and actively participate in both rock and ice climbing.

The November outing will be the annual Wild Game and Veggie Feast.  Activities being planned include Project COPES, Sea Kayaking, Climbing, and Backpacking. Crew 210 is coed and currently has 12 members. Youth between ages 14 and 21 that are interested in joining should contact Andrew Rohm, Crew President.
