Troop News - High adventure campout in Cary

Chip Popoviciu displays his Cisco pride after reaching the Everest summit last month, completing a six-week-long ascent up the world's tallest mountain.

Troop 210 September Campout:  Preparing for Everest in Cary

Scouts,

Kevin John will be the Camp master for the September Campout on September 26th.  We will be doing a High Adventure theme with rock climbing, kayaking, backpacking and hiking on the agenda.  The great part is we will be doing all of this in Cary.

We’ll start our “AT Adventure” Friday evening the 26th at the Triangle Rock Club at 8 PM.  We'll have a "Lock In" at the Triangle Rock Club (where we will have the entire facility to ourselves all night long.  We'll sleep in our sleeping bags on the pads and get up early Saturday and hike to Lake Crabtree just down Weston Parkway form the Rock Club and those that want to can rent Kayaks, Canoes or Sailboats or just enjoy the day at the Lake and eat a trail lunch.

After we hit the white water on Lake Crabtree we’ll hike to our “Base Camp” at Oddfellows where we will pitch camp for the night and cook a trail supper.  Sunday morning we’ll cook Mountain Man for breakfast as a Troop.

Equipment and Costs:

Lock In at the Triangle Rock Club:  $25 to $27 which includes climbing harness and shoes

Kayak Rental:  $7 per hour.

Back Pack:  Don’t worry about getting a new backpack.  We will have our “Base Camp” (Troop Trailer) set up at Odd fellows with all the tents, extra gear etc so all you’ll need is a school size Day Pack to carry your water,  rain gear, compass, breakfast and lunch.  If you do have an expedition size pack, please feel free to carry all your gear.  Remember we do want to simulate a true backpacking experience.

Food:  Your choice between dehydrated to Patrol Cooking.  You can plan a $10 menu.  Just remember to make sure it is the type food you would eat on a backpacking trip, i.e. no coolers and keep it light weight for carrying it.   We will have a menu demonstration the Monday before the Campout.

Popcorn:

If you are interested in selling popcorn and earning some money for your scouting expenses, please see Mr. Freeman. If there is enough interest, we will consider running this through the troop (that will require a scouter/parent volunteer to coordinate).  Otherwise, we can hook you up with someone at the district. Happy selling!

Crosswinds Scouting Units:

The BSA has made available a new Eagle Scout Rank application. Form 58-728, 2008 Second Printing

Effective IMMEDIATELY, this is the only application that can be used in the Eagle Scout process. Do not use or submit older versions of the application to the Council office.

Exception: If you have already submitted your application to the Council and they have accepted it, it will be allowed at your Eagle Board of Review.

The new form can be immediately determined from older forms by noting that the BSA PID number box has moved from the upper left corner of the form on the front site. The back side of the form has the version at the bottom left. "58-728, 2008 Second Printing"

This application can be downloaded here:
http://www.nesa.org/PDF/58-728.pdf

Note that you can also complete and print this form online if you have the free Adobe reader application. You must still submit the form manually through the current process.

This form now supports digital signatures in some fields, but we are not currently able to accept them. All signatures should be provided by the requested individual, in blue or black ink.

Please ensure all Life Scouts, applying for the Eagle rank use the correct form.

OA News

Brothers,

“A call has been issued from the lodge Patch Committee to all chapters.
In the designing of a new patch, the lodge would like each chapter to
submit their totems.  However, the Netami chapter does not have an
official totem as of now.  So we have a couple of options.
Mr. McCloud has designed, for the ceremonies t-shirts, a sort of "logo"
or "totem".  We can either use this "logo" or new designs can be
submitted at the upcoming BBQ.  If you are an artistic person and would
like to make the Netami totem, please do so!  Totems have traditionally
been animals such as birds or a turtle but be creative.
We are the thunderbirds!  Also be aware that we will eventually need the
totem in electronic form for the final patch so if you can design it in
photoshop that would also be helpful.  The final decision for the totem
will be made at the BBQ.”

Yours in Brotherhood
Kevin Biegert
Netami Chapter Chief

Boys Scouts select new uniform

In case you haven't heard, BSA is changing its uniform design for the first time in over 25 years!

http://www.scoutstuff.org/bsasupply/images/pdfs/BSA_011_broch_AB.pdf

This DOES NOT mean you have to go out and replace your current uniform.  T210 uniform policy is to wear the BSA uniform correctly, whether it is 1 month old, or 45 years old.  It is even noted on the brochure, "each piece transitions to mix and match with your current uniform".  If your son is planning to go to the 2010 National Jamboree, I would expect this new uniform will be required.  But you have plenty of time before you need to purchase.
