September 2009

A huge thank you from the Troop Treasurer and Scout Master to the anonymous donor of $750! We received your check from the Council Office and will put it to good use within the Troop.

Guest speakers

Last month’s guest speaker was Troop 210 Scouter Ryan E. Ryan presented his research and seminar experience in Oriental Medicine. By using a slide show he put together along with charts from his recent seminar Ryan discussed the history of the practice as well as how the channels of the body are more connected than most know. He also talked about methods to treat ailments that have proven to be effective for centuries and how they can be an alternative to some modern medicines.

This month, thanks to scout Joseph W, we have Raleigh police Officer Vincent Doxbeck to talk about the DARE program as well as the Raleigh Police Explorers.

We have several others line up to speak to the troop from a National Speaker-Book author – TV star, a Martial Arts Master, NASA jet propulsion expert to a FBI SWAT team leader.

If you have a hobby or career that you would like to present or would love to see a presentation about let your Senior Patrol leader know and the troop will see what it can do.

Harris Lake September Campout

September 25 and 27 2009

$12 night Monday September 21

We are going to mix up the camping with lots of things to do. We will begin to work on the Camping Merit Badge including working on conservation in the morning. After lunch you can pick from various activities below if we have enough leaders. Other than a boat you will need to bring your own gear

Mountain Biking if enough leaders (remember helmets)

Fishing (must have license if over 16)

Frisbee golf BYOF (bring your own Frisbee)

Boating (Bring them if you got them)

Friday Night

5:30 pm - Meet at White Plains UMC

6:15 pm – Depart White Plains

6:45 pm – Arrive Harris Lake and Set up.

Saturday

7:00 am – Prepare and eat breakfast

9:00 am – Conservation project at the lake

11:30 am – Return to camp for lunch.

1:00pm – Camping merit badge instruction

Afternoon activities (if enough leader coverage)

5:30 pm Dinner and clean up.

7:15pm Nighttime campfire

Plan for rain just in case!

Carolina Hurricanes Game

Scouts, Scouters and Venturers,

It's that time again, time to go see the Carolina Hurricanes! The first Scout night is Friday, November 6, with the Hurricanes facing off against the Toronto Maple Leafs. As usual we can get upper level, corner seats for $21 (regularly $40) if we have at least 20 folks sign up. We already have interest from 9 folks, so we're almost half way there!

Please let me know how many tickets you would like (kids under TWO get in free, if you're patient enough to bring them). My deadline for orders and payment will be Tuesday, October 13. Please e-mail me your order and I will collect payments at Troop, Pack and Crew meetings. I can also take orders at meetings, but it's easier for me to keep up with e-mails. Please indicate on your order which Scout group you are associated with (Troop, Pack or Crew).

I can accept payment by cash or check (made out to me, William Willets, as I have to buy the tickets in one order). I would hope to distribute the tickets by October 27.

Let's make a great showing at the first Scout night at the Canes!
