Our program of meetings and outdoor activities is structured to insure this goal is met. We are not an "Eagle factory". If a scout has no interest in rank advancement but just loves to camp, that is fine too.

- Attaining First Class should be your primary goal. This requires focusing on the requirements listed in your handbook. You will notice that no merit badges are required. So please focus on the everything else. The troop has Assistant Scoutmasters and Troop Guides who are focused on helping you achieve your First Class rank ------- don't hesitate to get help from them!
- What is the troop committee?
- Every parent is a member of the troop committee, which typically meets once a month at the church at 7pm, durring the troop meeting. Troop 210 has a very active troop committee and the parents need to be involved for that success to continue.
- What can a parent do to assist?
- A whole page could be devoted to this!!! Everything from driving scouts to campouts, to helping with merit badge classes, serving on boards of review committee's, planning out of town campouts, driving scouts to campouts, assisting with fundraisers, to being a scout leader yourself!!! Please let the scoutmaster and troop committee chairman know what you interests so we can call upon you when necessary (which could be often!)
- What is a board of review and when do they meet?
- Each scout goes before a board of review before every rank advancement. The purpose of the Board of Review is to make sure the scout has passed all of the requirements for the rank advancement. He is often asked to repeat the Boy Scout Oath, Motto, Law, and / or Slogan. The board's purpose is not to test the scout on every point of the rank advancement, but to verify that the scout has indeed met the requirements for the rank advancement. Scouts are also asked what they have learned, what they enjoy about scouting and the troop in particular, and what they would suggest for improvements. Members of the Board of Review are typically one Troop Scout Leader plu two parents (not parents of the scout being reviewed). The parents help is crucial! Board of Review Committees meet on the 1st Monday of the month (more often if necessary) during the meeting. A scout is brought out of the regular meeting to go before the board.
- What is the "Pedro Patrol"?
- This is the patrol for all scouts who are working on their rank advancement towards 1st Class rank. As soon as 1st Class rank is achieved, a scout is assigned to another patrol with more experienced scouts.
- How does the troop raise money?
- Troop 210 is fortunate to have a healthy bank balance without fundraising being a year round endeavor. Approximately $35 of the annual dues goes to the troop. Since the early 70's, Troop 210 has performed a luminaria service project that has successfully kept dues low. In addition, we occasionally have one time fundraisers, such as pancake sales. This year we are experimenting with a basketball fundraiser booth at Walnut Creek during the summer.
- Is there anyone designated to work with first year scouts?
- Yes, we have several Assistant Scoutmasters, as well as boy scouts who are Junior Assistant Scoutmasters or Troop Guides who are tasked in helping new scouts on their trail to First Class. They are available to meet with not only during meetings, but campouts as well.
